Fees & Billing
Information about consultation fees, Medicare rebates, surgery costs, and WorkCover/TAC claims.
Your first appointment
You will be charged a consultation fee on the day of your appointment. As Dr Ravi requires a current referral from your GP or another specialist for all appointments, you can claim a Medicare rebate for the consultation. The rebate does not cover the full fee — the difference is the "gap," and it is payable by you. If your bank details are registered with Medicare, our rooms will process your rebate on your behalf on the day, so the amount is refunded directly to your account without you needing to make a separate claim.
Private health insurance does not contribute to outpatient consultations. Your health fund covers hospital care, not visits to a specialist's rooms.
Surgery costs
Dr Ravi participates in gap cover arrangements with a number of private health funds, capping your out-of-pocket cost for his surgical fee at $500 for eligible procedures. This fee includes two post-operative follow-up appointments. Participation and eligibility vary by fund and by procedure, so please contact our rooms to confirm whether your policy qualifies and to receive a written estimate before you proceed.
This gap arrangement applies to the surgeon's fee only — your anaesthetist, assistant surgeon, and hospital excess are billed separately by those providers, and we can help you understand these costs as part of your overall estimate.
WorkCover and TAC claims
Dr Ravi accepts WorkCover and TAC claims. Payment is required on the day of your appointment, as per our standard consultation fee. An itemised receipt for claiming will be issued to you, which you may then submit to WorkCover or TAC directly for reimbursement. Please note that no Medicare rebate is processed for WorkCover or TAC claims.
If surgery is recommended
Surgery under TAC or WorkCover requires prior approval from the insurer. Dr Dissanayake will write to your insurer requesting approval, including the clinical justification and the proposed procedure. Once approval is received, surgery is scheduled and the insurer is billed directly.
